Title: The Second Eye Health Forum on China-Africa Cooperation

Time: 20 August, 2019 (Tuesday), 13:30-18:00

Venue: Kigali Convention Center, Kigali, Rwanda

Host: China National Training Base for the Prevention and Treatment of Blindness

Co-organizer: College of Ophthalmology of Eastern Central and Southern Africa (COECSA), African Ophthalmology Council (AOC), Orbis International, He Eye Specialist Hospital(HESH)

Objective: To thoroughly discuss ways to contentiously band together for facing the severe situation in the prevention and control of blindness in Africa.

Background: During The Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in April 2019, Chinese President Jinping Xi stated that, “We need to strengthen international development cooperation so as to create more opportunities for developing countries, help them eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development.” Africa is an important partner of China's Belt and Road strategy. Eye health cooperation between China and Africa is at the primary level. The 2018 Eye Health Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Beijing was the first official dialogue between China and African countries. China National Training Base for the Prevention and Treatment of Blindness has started to extend cooperation to Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Rwanda thereafter. Chinese blindness prevention model which is based on AI medical system combined with big data analysis has taken roots in Belt and Road countries.
